We welcome our newly appointed Pastor!
The Right Reverend Harry L. Seawright, the 133 rd. Elected and consecrated Bishop of the AME Church appointed Rev. Brietta to Galilee AME Church on November 16, 2024; she was blessed to preach her first sermon as Pastor on her birthday on November 17.
Prior to accepting the Pastorate at Galilee, she served as Youth and Young Adult Minster at Galilee, and she also served from 2006 to 2023 as an Associate Minister at St. Andrew African Methodist Episcopal Church in Memphis, Tennessee, where she gave leadership to the Women’s Ministry, Intercessory Prayer, and New Member Classes. She has also held two appointments to the Chaplain position of the Memphis Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc., and the Local Memphis Alumni Chapter of Jackson State University, and she is the National Chaplain of the National Alumni Association for Jackson State University. She is blessed to be the mother of a handsome young man named Baron, a college student at Tuskegee University majoring in Mechanical Engineering and Air Force ROTC. Rev. Brietta has a passion for Women’s Ministry and Intercessory
Prayer. She is a woman of God who loves God and desires to see people saved, healed, and set free. The words of her favorite scripture guide Rev. Brietta’s life: “For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.

Rev. Doris Brietta Smith serves as Pastor of Galilee African Methodist Episcopal Church in Memphis, Tennessee. She is a native of Jackson, Mississippi. She accepted the call to preach in January 2006. She is an ordained Elder in the African Methodist Episcopal Church. Rev Brietta is a graduate of Provine High School in Jackson, Mississippi. She earned a Bachelor of Science Degree in Biology/Pre-Medicine from Jackson State University in Jackson, Mississippi, in 1992 and a Bachelor of Medical Technology Degree from U.T. Health Science Center in Memphis, Tennessee, in June 1997. She received a Master of Divinity degree from Memphis Theological Seminary in May 2024. Rev. Brietta is pursuing her Doctor of Ministry in Pastoral Care and Counseling - Faith and Health at Memphis Theological Seminary.
